About Joanna

I’m a biomedical engineer with 20 years of experience with technical writing and editing gained through my scientific research career. In 2017, when I found myself looking for a new challenge, I was encouraged by Kate Atherley, who would soon become my mentor, to try my hand at technical editing of knitting patterns. My strong math background, paired with a keen attention to detail, turned out to be an excellent match for TE. A lot of the qualities that made me great at writing and reviewing standard operating procedures for the lab are the same ones needed in technical editing.

I love a challenge - complex constructions, new stitches and novel techniques won’t faze me. I’ve got experience editing shawls, scarves, socks, mittens, sweaters in multiple sizes (both seamed and knit in the round), hats and toys. One of the very first things I ever edited was a pattern for a knit motorcycle jacket - talk about taking a plunge right into the deep end!

It gives me great satisfaction helping designers ensure that their patterns are not only correct, but also easy to read, follow, and execute. I will make sure that your voice and style are not lost through the editing process. I want to work with you to make your pattern the best, easiest to use pattern it can be, while still making sure that it is unmistakably yours.
